Abstract & Collage

Michelle began pushing paint around in 2008 and has completed a myriad of courses since, expanding her skill-set and pushing boundaries simultaneously.

She has participated in solo and group shows including Art Central in Calgary, Art in the Garden in Nanoose, and Nanaimo’s Art Walk. Prior to 2026, her work has been included in galleries in Red Deer, Calgary, and Nanaimo. Her acrylic abstracts convey a liveliness of expressive colour and movement and are in collections across the globe.

Meet the Maker

Michelle’s work falls into three categories:

Dirty Birds

Inspired by the illustrations in antique coffee table books produced by ornithophiles of yesteryear, the Dirty Bird series features gel-plate prints & painted birds, with just a fun smattering of curse words.

Collage & Monoprints

Gelatin plate prints can create a myriad of possibilities when partnered with stencils, mark-making tools, & even natural materials.  Some prints complete their raison d’être in one fell stroke, while others continue on to become nestled in with other media in collages.

Abstract Art

Abstracts lured me into their sphere sometime in the later Naughts and I’ve been enamoured ever since. While I started on the smallest canvases in existence (about 2 inches square), I soon branched out onto the largest ones I could fit in my vehicle (four-foot square). My inventory varies now between small and large, but nothing quite so small & nothing quite so large.
